Heavy-duty leather footwear or dielectric footwear is required to be worn if the arc flash incident energy exposure is greater than 4 cal/cm2 (16.75 J/cm2). Heavy-duty leather shoes do not necessarily offer shock protection, but are sufficient for arc flash protection. Dielectric footwear is not the same as EH (electric hazard) rated footwear. Dielectric footwear is rated for higher voltages than EH footwear and may be used in wet conditions.
