Insulating Equipment

Insulating equipment helps to minimize the risk of causing an arc-fault by unintentional contact with energized parts but does not provide any protection once an arc flash occurs.

Insulating equipment includes:

• Insulated tools
• Fuse or fuse holder handling equipment
• Fiberglass-reinforced plastic rod and tube used for live-line
• Protective shields, protective barriers, or insulating materials

Items like ladders, ropes, and handlines used within the limited approach boundary must be nonconductive.
